Prabhadevi today bustles with traffic, offices and residential towers, but barely a hundred years ago, it was idyllic rural countryside. Fishermen lived on its shore and palm trees swayed in the wadis. Development started in the late 19th century, as mills came up as an extension of the mill-district of Lower Parel. Wadis gave way to buildings after town planning schemes were introduced in the 1960s. But between the buildings, you can still see signs of the days of yore. On our #OldPrabhadevi heritage walk around the Old Prabhadevi Road that once connected this neighbourhood to the city, we explore what was once the south-west corner of Mahim island.
