Over the years, Indian society has gone through plenty of changes. The place of family as the basic unit of society is being challenged by those who believe in individual rights. Issues that used to be brushed under the carpet, such as caste discrimination, homosexuality,and others, are now out in the mainstream. These changes also reflect in our cinema. At our Online Talk #ZamanaBadalGaya, academician Jeroo Mulla will take us through a history of cinema that is reflective of our society. Her talk will focus on how women and the marginalized are seen through the lens of somewhat controversial films like Ek Ladki ko Dekha to Aisa Hua, Sherni, Sairat, Court and others. 

About the speaker

Jeroo Mulla has headed the Sophia Institute of Social Communications Media from 2012-13 and functioned as the head of social communications media department at their Polytechnic. Having taught film appreciation, photography and the fundamentals of communications for over thirty years, Mulla continues to teach film and photography as visiting faculty at the Polytechnic and Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communications. On the advisory board of three academic institutions, Mulla has supervised the student productions of over 80 audio-visuals and 24 video documentaries on human development issues.
