Horace Van Ruith was a well-known and popular artist in the 19th century. A highlight of his career was the period he spent in India between 1879 and 1886. He became a celebrity in the Bombay art scene and was know for his scenes of daily life. After his death Horace Van Ruith fell into obscurity, and today, most people know nothing about the man himself. His Indian themed paintings have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity though in the last few years. At our Online Talk #AForgottenChronicler, art historian Nicholas Thorp explores the forgotten story of his life and work in India.
