Mumbai’s dabbawalas have been a symbol of discipline, honesty, and precise time management for 135 years. They have not only supported the functioning of Mumbai by delivering lakhs of tiffins on time, but have also contributed to blood donation camps, disaster relief, education, and social work. At our online talk, #LunchBox, dabbawala leader and social reformer Vishnu Dattatraya Kaldoke will enlighten us on the service spirit, simplicity, and commitment of the dabbawalas, who are an inseparable part of Mumbai’s social fabric and proudly continue this tradition even today.
About the Speaker:
Vishnu Dattatraya Kaldoke is currently the Sarpanch of Amboli in Pune district, and is also a dabbawala leader and social reformer. He is a member of the State Drought Relief Committee and the President of the Warkari Prabodhan Samiti. He is the recipient of the “Mumbai Bhushan” Award for 2023 for his care and assistance to the relatives of patients through food donations. He studied at Wilson College in Mumbai, later joined his ancestral business as a dabbawala, and has served the people since. For the past 24 years, as a spokesperson for the dabbawalas, he has given lectures across the country and abroad at various institutions, colleges, and companies on time management and operational efficiency.
