The women's reform movement in Maharashtra began in the 19th century. It is generally perceived that women were passive recipients of these reforms initiated mostly by men, but they too were active agents of this social change. At our Online Talk, #Homemakers2Historymakers, historian and professor Dr Jaswandi Wamburkar will tell the fascinating stories of the well-known and lesser-known women reformers in Maharashtra who fought with unwavering courage to create space for women and build a society based on gender equality.
About the speaker:
Dr Jaswandi Wamburkar is a feminist historian who has been in the teaching profession for the past 25 years. She is currently serving as a professor in the Department of History at Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women’s University in Mumbai. She has five books and 30 research articles, published in reputed journals in English and Marathi, to her credit.
