#FreezeFrames – Sculptures As Reflections Of Society By Dr Kumud Kanitkar: Talk 254

Art (especially sculptural art), through the ages, can be viewed as a reflection of society in the mirror of time, captured in a snapshot. At our Online Talk #FreezeFrames, Indologist Dr Kumud Kanitkar takes us on a guided tour of our country’s heritage, reflecting choices of the populace: the erudite, the fanatics, the royalty, and of course, the people. Instead of streets and mohallas on a heritage tour, we will be travelling through different regions and different eras to understand India’s history and heritage better. About the speaker Dr Kumud Kanitkar is a former Professor of Chemistry who, after retirement, pursued her hobby of research in Indology, focusing on medieval temples in Maharashtra. She has written four books, two on Ambarnatha Shivalaya and two on Bhuleshvar Shivalaya, as well as over 40 research papers in various journals. Her first book, ‘Ambarnath Shivalaya: A monograph on the temple at Ambarnath’ (2013, English), was awarded the Ikuo Hirayama Prize 2013 by Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, Paris.
