Insects have been an integral part of human survival on Earth. Any ecosystem of which we are a part cannot survive without the important role that insects play. They have evolved approximately around 450 to 480 million years ago, and have been with us for a considerable length of time. They play a vital role in the food chain and food web by being food to others, eating others, eating what others hesitate i.e. decaying matter, and most importantly, doing humans a favour by pollinating plants, especially cross pollination which provides fruits, vegetables and a multitude of crops to us. But we ignore their favourable services and hate these bugs because they cause very serious diseases to human kinds. At our Online Talk #CreepyCrawlies, researcher and naturalist Dr Amol Patwardhan will speak on the interplay between the insect world and the human world. About the speaker: Dr Amol Patwardhan is an academician and a researcher with proven experience in teaching and research. He is also a naturalist with a thorough record of nature trails, talks and publications and a photographer with keen interest in documenting ecology and biodiversity. Currently, he is Assistant Professor at the KJ Somaiya College of Science and Commerce where he teaches Zoology to undergraduate and postgraduate students. There, he introduced an M.Sc. course in Entomology. He also consults on environmental projects.
