Whilst the contours of a free nation were being drawn by the political leaders in Delhi, the common people living in the land being contested were not consulted. As men made the decisions and wielded the swords, it was the women who had to bear the brunt of the carnage. At our Online Talk #PartitionAndThePeople, historical fiction writer Manreet Sodhi Someshwar brings the subaltern, the aam aadmi and aurat, out of the shadows and on the same stage as the political leadership to show the life-altering impact in places like Lahore, Hyderabad and Kashmir of decisions being taken in Delhi.
