Family trees are abstract, but stories add depth. Understanding the scale of an ancestor’s achievements, recognising their flaws, uncovering patterns of overcoming difficult situations can inspire pride, compassion and offer solace during our own hard times. An increasing number of individuals are realising the importance of documenting their family histories, either as a gift of legacy for next generations or to get a better grasp on their own journeys. At our Online Talk #FamilyMatters, business archivist Sanghamitra Chatterjee takes us through the highs and lows of researching family histories and reveals how the journey of each family deepens understanding of our collective past. 

About the speaker

Sanghamitra Chatterjee is the founder of Past Perfect Heritage Management and assists businesses, institutions and private families with archiving their illustrious legacy. She has worked with companies such as Bajaj, Mahindra, Transport Corporation of India, Kirloskar Group and Exide Industries, institutions such as Willingdon Sports Clubs and several private families who wish to document and communicate their history in exciting, unconventional ways. She was the recipient of the Avabai Wadia Scholarship by K R Cama Oriental Institute for her research on ‘Private Enterprise and Labour Housing in the 20th Century’ She is a Life Member of the Oral History Association of India and currently its Joint Secretary.
