Mumbai was not a planned city but came into being with every stop of its growth. Each new development in the city has been expressed in physical forms. It has grown precinct by precinct with varying architectural styles and social groups. During the process some parts of heritage have left traces, some have not. In some cases we may not even retain pictorial memories of what has been, and that is such a pity. And this is where the role of conservation comes into play. Sharada Dwivedi among several others brought forward the consciousness of the need for conservation. By definition, it is a long and tricky process. This panel discussion is an attempt to speak with those closely associated with architecture and conservation to understand the changes in conservation initiatives and how it has evolved over a period of time. The panelists will aim to answer questions about what should be the focus of conservation, the players who have contributed towards it and examples of success.
