The day of Mahatma Gandhi's return from South Africa is observed as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or NRI Day! And that among the earliest NRIs to UK were ayahs! They would be taken to England by English families returning home to take care of their children on the ship, and would often be abandoned there. Many of them would have sailed from Mumbai.
