150 years ago, Dongri looked very different from the way it does today. The stretch from what is today the Central Railway tracks to Bhendi Bazaar was a hamlet called Old or Juna Nagpada (not to be confused with New Nagpada near Byculla). The hamlet was demolished after the plague of 1896 to build Sandhurst Road to and allow the sea breeze to ventilate the inner city. However, a few traces of Juna Nagpada still remain. Come, explore this home to many communities, humans and snakes on the #OldNagpada walk, and witness the evolution of this hamlet into a layered neighbourhood with unwritten stories of one of Mumbai’s most cosmopolitan quarters.
