Food is often reduced to a few familiar dishes and easy stereotypes. Yet, in reality, it carries layered stories of land, season, memory, and community. Gujarati cuisine, in particular, holds a far richer and more diverse world than what we commonly see, one shaped by region, ecology, and lived experience.
At our Online Talk #BeyondDhokla, researcher and author Sheetal Bhatt invites you on a journey into the lesser-known food cultures of Gujarat. Drawing from years of fieldwork and her book Silent Cuisines, she also brings alive the kitchens of Adivasi communities, where food is not just cooked, but foraged, remembered, and deeply rooted in place. Through stories, encounters, and insights, the talk explores disappearing traditions, shifting food habits, and why preserving these culinary worlds matters now more than ever.
