Traditionally, heritage is understood as grand, monumental structures, and conservation is about protecting them from damage. Seen this way, heritage can often become a burden in urban development, and in turn, urban development becomes a threat to heritage. But what if heritage is reframed to include lesser-known objects and places, green areas, and traditions dear to a range of people? And what if conservation is understood as the creative management of change rather than resistance to it? At the #AlongTheAquaLine talk at Khaki Lab, Fort, Maitri Dore, researcher and author of the book "Mumbai Metro Aqua Line: A Time Traveller’s Guide", uses the heritage sites along Mumbai’s newest metro line to explain How we can create a sustainable future without losing our past, so that we don’t lose our sense of identity and belonging while moving ahead with necessary development.
