Hindustani classical music gives musicians much scope for creative expression. A raga or a single bandish can be sung with different passions. At our Online Talk #GaanGunagaan, Hindustani music performer and scholar Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande illustrates the features of Hindustani music that lend themselves to creative expression , and provides a brief survey of how various gharanas have used these features to give voice, shape and form to their creative urges. He also explains the fundamentals of Hindustani music from the point of view of individual creativity.

Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande is an acclaimed performer and scholar of Hindustani classical music. He is a leading disciple of the legendary Pt Kumar Gandharva and the son of musicologist Vamanrao Deshpande. He is known for his electrifying performances, his edifying lecture demonstrations and his acclaimed scholarly writing on Hindustani music. Panditji lives and teaches in Pune.
